Naegele’s rule adds 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last period. If your cycle isn’t 28 days, the calculation is adjusted accordingly.
A pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks (280 days) from the last period, i.e. roughly 38 weeks after conception. Birth between 37 and 42 weeks is considered full term.
It’s an estimate. The actual date can vary by several days. A first-trimester dating ultrasound remains the most accurate method — talk to your doctor.
